For optimal growth and blooming, Gaura prefers full sun but can also thrive with some partial shade in hot climates. Adequate drainage is crucial, as these drought-tolerant plants are not long-lived and can be killed by soggy winter soil. Enhance the soil with compost and grit, or consider planting in raised beds. For best results, space plants at least 12 inches apart and plant in groups of three or five. Water sparingly but deeply to encourage deep root growth. Gaura is versatile and can tolerate extreme temperatures and humidity, making it suitable for a wide range of climates. These plants do not require additional fertilizer, as they thrive in poor soil. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can cause the plant to become floppy.
