Curcuma is a herbaceous perennial plant, also known as Turmeric (Curcuma spp.), that belongs to the ginger family and is native to Southern Asia and India. There are approximately 100 different species of Curcuma, some of which are used for food and dyes, while others are popular as ornamental plants in gardens. These plants typically feature long, broad leaves on stalks that grow from rhizomes, and bloom during late Spring and early Summer with large, colorful flower spikes and bracts. Depending on the variety, some Curcuma plants prefer full sun while others thrive in shade, but all require moist, well-draining soil. Certain species may also need protection from wind and direct sunlight. Some Curcuma varieties can be harvested and eaten, while others are used solely for decorative purposes. If harvested, it is best to do so in late Autumn or early Winter when the plant appears to be maturing, and the rhizomes are ready after
