Coleus Madagascariensis 16cm
Coleus Madagascariensis 16cm
This species of Coleus, including Plectranthus, is highly rewarding and easy to cultivate, with cuttings able to be made throughout the year, preferably during summer, by taking short stem pieces with 3-4 nodes and removing the biggest, softest leaves. No rooting hormone is necessary. Cuttings can be directly planted in the ground with protection and watered every other day for the first two months, or placed in a rooting medium in pots or cutting trays under nursery or propagation structure with regular watering or misting. To maintain variegation, it is best to propagate the cultivar 'Lynne' from cuttings. Rejuvenation of the plant and restoring its desired shape is recommended periodically. Additional nutrition is not required, but a layer of compost and/or organic fertilizer can be used. In early spring, plants will grow vigorously again. They are low maintenance and only require occasional watering every few weeks, although caterpillars and snails may be an issue.
